Holiday Concert combines talents of students and faculty members
Vocal and instrumental ensembles and several faculty members from the University of North Georgia (UNG) joined forces to present the university's inaugural holiday concert featuring the sounds of Christmas in Gainesville, Georgia.

21 cadets earn Distinguished Military Graduate honor
Twenty-one cadets from the University of North Georgia (UNG) have been ranked in the top 20 percent of the nation among more than 5,000 Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) cadets assessed by U.S. Army Cadet Command. Ranking in the top 20 percent in the nation earns cadets the designation of Distinguished Military Graduate (DMG). Cadets are ranked on the national Order of Merit List (OML) by achieving superior grade-point averages, strong performance in the Army physical fitness test, and proving their worth as exceptional leaders in their college ROTC training.

Public health event gives students platform to share their work
Dr. Jo Qian gave about 100 students an opportunity to share what they have learned about human diseases and innovative biotechniques that impact the health field. The inaugural University of North Georgia (UNG) Public Health Awareness Day was held. Nov. 7 on UNG's Gainesville Campus. Topics of poster presentations included a variety of skin, bone, muscle and nervous system disorders.

Regional research conference for undergrads benefits students
More than 250 college students, faculty and staff members from across the Southeast participated in the Georgia Undergraduate Research Conference Nov. 3 at the University of North Georgia's (UNG) Gainesville Campus. This was the first time UNG hosted the regional conference.

Belmont Sends Thousands of New Bruins into Nashville for Service
The beginning of a new school year looks different each year. It can include moving into a new dorm room, wayfinding through campus or scoping out the best spots for future study sessions. For more than 2,000 Belmont University freshmen and transfer students, this year's new school year included all these things and a special opportunity to serve their community. During the Towering Traditions orientation program, new Bruins spend an afternoon traveling to 26 locations across the greater Nashville area for service. The event, called SERVE, allows students to immerse themselves in their new hometown.

Oglethorpe University Students Study Abroad in Fall 2018
Ten Oglethorpe students are spending the fall 2018 semester away from Oglethorpe University as part of various Study Abroad programs. Oglethorpe's Atlanta Laboratory for Learning (A_LAB) helps students to identify and plan real-world experiences, including long and short-term study abroad opportunities, international internships, and more. From skills enhancements like immersive language experiences to gaining insight into the visions and values that drive people in their own cultures, the benefits of time abroad during the undergraduate experience are both personally enriching and marketable in the workplace.

Students earn endowed scholarships at Baldwin Wallace University
More than 600 students earned endowed scholarships at Baldwin Wallace University this fall. BW has a long history of endowed scholarship support from alumni, faculty, trustees and friends. Over 400 named scholarships provide in excess of $3 million to help students attend, persist and graduate from BW. Endowed scholarships vary in their requirements with many specifying financial need, a course of study, involvement on campus or a commitment to excellence in a particular field.

Baldwin Wallace University awards merit scholarships to accomplished first-year students
Nearly 600 first-year students welcomed to the Baldwin Wallace University campus this fall earned $7.7 million in merit scholarships for their outstanding high school achievements. BW grants a wide range of scholarships to current students each year. Including merit and need-based scholarships, BW students received over $48 million in financial support from the University for the 2018-2019 academic year.

Belmont University Draws Record 8,318 Students for Fall 2018
Belmont University kicked off classes for its fall 2018 semester with a record-breaking enrollment number as the University welcomed 8,318 students to campus, nearly triple the enrollment in 2000 and marking a 65 percent increase in the last decade alone. This marks Belmont's 18th consecutive year of record enrollment.

UNG students participate in overseas programs
The opportunities for expanding global knowledge at the University of North Georgia (UNG) continue to grow as new programs are added. During this summer alone, 234 UNG students participated in study abroad and international internships. For the 2018-19 academic year, UNG has 36 active programs in 15 countries.

2018 Orientation Day of Service
At the start of the academic year, the entire freshman class volunteers at locations across Atlanta for the annual Orientation Day of Service. This year, more than 300 students, plus transfer students, members of Alpha Phi Omega and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and Achieve Atlanta Scholars, each volunteered at one of 17 local nonprofit organizations. The contributed work is valued at over $25,000 for the day. "We used our time and talents to impact communities in ways that cannot be quantified," said Jessica Winestock, associate director of A_LAB, Civic Engagement at Oglethorpe. "We befriended young children as we handed out food, we laughed with seniors over a game of bingo, and we learned lessons in mechanics as we helped to build wheelchairs." Experiences such as the Orientation Day of Service are not just "feel good" events. Service Learning curricula melds the classroom experience with the rigors of service, instilling sought-after qualities such as teamwork, leadership, empathy, and enthusiasm, as well as concrete foundations for creative and intellectual advancement. Nonprofits visited included: Trees Atlanta, International Rescue Committee, The Drake House, The Wylde Center/Oakhurst Garden, The Wylde Center/Hawk Hollow Garden, Frazer Center, Making A Way Housing, Inc., Hosea Feed the Hungry, AG Rhodes Health and Rehabilitation Center, Friends of Disabled Adults and Children, Books for Africa, Atlanta Community Food Bank, MedShare International, The Latin American Association, Charles R. Drew Charter School, UHOPE CDC, and the Latin American Association.

UA Students Participate in Summer 2018 Cooperative Education
More than 250 University of Alabama students are receiving hands-on, innovative and advanced educational experience with dozens of companies and organizations across the United States through UA's Cooperative Education Program for fall 2018. In the Cooperative Education Program, students alternate periods of full-time study with periods of full-time employment. This program offers work related to the academic major or career interests of each student, experience that enhances the students' employment prospects after graduation. While in school, students carry regular course schedules. While on co-op, they work with professionals in their fields who supervise their training and work. At work, co-op students earn competitive salaries and may receive benefit packages in addition to valuable job experience. Participants maintain their full-time student status while at work and have priority registration status each semester through graduation.
